Install GSKILL

GSKILL is a single gskill binary for Linux and macOS, on amd64 and arm64. Pick one install method below; each one gives you the same command. Windows is not supported.

Downloads the right archive for your platform and verifies its checksum.

Terminal window
curl -sSfL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/glapsfun/gskill/main/scripts/install.sh | sh
Terminal window
gskill version

If your shell cannot find gskill, add the install location to your PATH:

  • Install script: /usr/local/bin when it is writable, otherwise ~/.local/bin. Set INSTALL_DIR before running the script to choose another directory.
  • Go: $(go env GOPATH)/bin.

Move the gskill you are running to the latest stable release:

Terminal window
gskill self upgrade

Preview what it would do, or choose an exact release:

Terminal window
gskill --dry-run self upgrade
gskill self upgrade --to 0.10.0

What it does depends on how you installed gskill:

Install method What gskill self upgrade does
Install script or release archive Downloads the release archive, checks its signature and checksum, and replaces the binary in place.
Homebrew, npm, npx, Go, container image Changes nothing. It prints the command that upgrades your install and exits with code 8.

A binary in /usr/bin, /usr/sbin, /bin, or /sbin belongs to your system’s package manager, so gskill prints the commands instead of replacing it.

It never downgrades, and it picks a prerelease only when you name one with --to. In a script or CI job, pass --yes: without a terminal it does not proceed otherwise.

It needs HTTPS access to api.github.com, github.com, objects.githubusercontent.com, and tuf-repo-cdn.sigstore.dev.

Releases without this command (0.9.0 and earlier) upgrade once with the method you installed them with.

Every release archive is checksummed, cosign-signed, and ships with SBOMs and build-provenance attestations. To check them yourself, see Cut and verify a release.

To run GSKILL from the container image, see Run GSKILL in a container.
